Video hamster

April 29, 2008 – 1:39 pm

iPhone users, I have some good news. All those waiting for a flash player type plugin for safari need to look no further. Live buster have been working on their video converter enabling video’s from the internet to be converted into quick time format in order to be played on iPhones.

Within a few easy steps iPhone users can covert their favourite videos for playback on demand. All that is needed is to save the live buster URL as a book mark to refer to when wishing to watch video.

The service itself is still in late beta stages but has been functioning without any hiccups so far.

Live buster still have some work to do on the concept as not all sites are supported and maximum lengths of video’s are currently limited to 5 minutes.

Pro Evolution Soccer on the Wii

April 28, 2008 – 8:14 pm

I thought I would write this post to warn Pro fans about the Wii’s version of the most popular football game around. If you have previously played the Playstation or Xbox version and thought you would get it for your Wii there is one thing you should be aware of, and that’s the big difference in game play.

After watching Mr Wright and Mr Owen parade the game as if it was the best thing since slice bread I felt obliged to give it a try.

The in game menu and game options are basically the same which was a relief and I was very happy with the graphics.

I then started to play the game! Already knowing that I would have to control all the players on the pitch I was prepared for a slight difference. “Slight” is a big understatement!

Having motion sensor controls where the user has to point and click to control the players on the pitch makes playing Pro on the Wii very impractical.

The game play on the Wii is terrible. It took me about half an hour to execute a decent pass. I then had to master moving players into the right area. In such a highly paced game you really do need about 3 hands and 3 controllers to get the maximum effect out of the game.

The whole point of the Wii was to make the user feel like they are actually playing the game. Take tennis for example, when I play tennis I clear the living room and swing the ball as if I was Federrer himself. If Nintendo was serious about bringing out a motion sensor football game they should have had some sensors which are placed on your foot! Any other concept for a motion sensor football game is not really football. Nintendo should of just supplied us with a normal control pad to accompany the traditional Pro game play.

So if you are thinking about going out to buy the Wii version I would suggest playing on one of your friends computers before buying.

Ants

March 16, 2008 – 1:44 pm

Ants is a nifty little game which, when launched, lets ants roam all over your iPhone screen as you do your normal iPhone stuff. They react to shaking, and are afraid of death - if you squash one, the rest move away.

You could have a maximum of 7 Ants roaming around the screen and makes great fun when showing off your phone to friends. I tried to get ants roaming around this posts but to no effect.

Ericsson PH388

February 15, 2008 – 1:17 pm

In this weeks look back in to histology we find ourselves looking at the Sony Ericcson PH388. With its small screen and thin sleek design the PH388 was a mobile device way ahead of its time. Introduced between the Mercury 121 and the Infamous Nokia changing faces the PH388 was a mobile loved by all.

At a time when colour screens and custom ringtones was unheard of the PH388 was the best gadget in consumer electronics.

1st generation iPod

February 14, 2008 – 1:42 pm

Still highly regarded as one of the best Mp3 players to hit consumers. The original iPod hit the market by storm. At a time when the digital age was about to take off Apple unveiled an MP3 which revolutionised brand loyalty.

To this day Apple are still reproducing iPods based on their original technology which helps to explain their dominance in the market today. There has been a considerable amount of competition in the MP3 market, however the Apple iPod sill seems to be well ahead of second place.

I still have a working version of the original iPod, although I have upgraded a few times since its always good to know where you are coming from.
